A project mostly done just to get painting, so it’s far from perfect and I didn’t take time to blend it out at all. Focus was on playing with some OSL and then I decided to try sculpting a base, so this is a huge step forward despite the lack of blending on it.
Unfortunately, I used some liners to give character to the stone and haven’t sealed the mini, so it’s pretty shiny along the walls and you can’t see any of the subtlety there. I’ll hit it with dullcote and see if I can get better pics and update this post later, if so. And though my intention was to not blend, I /may/ go back and do just a minor blend pass on the blue OSL highlight on the wall because that’s bugging me 🙂
Hope you enjoy!
And a couple hours with the lamp OSL…
Redstone, Fire Orange, Marigold Yellow, Sun Yellow.
Put in about an hour and a half on the blue flame and light. I don’t really want to get bogged down on stuff, just keeping it loose and getting back into painting.
I put in another round of OSL, but I think the bottom of the skirt is getting too light, starting to look like a green skirt and losing the ‘halo’ I like to show with OSL. So I varnished him and I’ll clip his pins, drill and dry-fit him on the base. That will let me start painting up the base, which will help me make decisions on finalizing the OSL on the man himself.
I think part of getting carried away on the lower parts was Kuro’s comment on blending :p Overall I’m pretty happy with where it’s at, and hopefully it sets up the lighting for the base properly and I can get away with not having to tweak it too much more…
I also primed another mini that will hopefully be a pretty quick one to try a couple things out. I don’t think anything new, rather a really old technique (inspired by looking at Orson again, his robe) and a new one (TMM). Painting a Hasslefree (or is it ‘an Hasslefree’ in the UK?) mini is long overdue.
Some more work on the Keeper’s OSL.
Stopping here to head up to my buddy’s place for some gaming this evening. I also want to think about some tweaks, I think I’ll also punch up the right side of the face, even though it doesn’t technically get that much light. Just to pull focus and make it super evil villainy.
My entry into the Reaper forums Halloween 2013 contest.
Here’s the mini I did for the Reaper forums 2013 Winter Exchange.
This is my actual first attempt at NMM. Also first time I did OSL, freehand (the stripes on the cuffs), glazing (the robe) and layering skin tones from scratch.
